We run our production in the best possible way, all the while thinking of the surrounding nature and environment. Our everyday processes are centred on recycling, as we aim to achieve the smallest possible ecological footprint. Big actions only happen when we adjust our thinking. We understand that our actions speak louder than our words.
In 200 years, we want to see a liveable environment where we can continue our work, and that is why it is our mission to contribute to the sustainable development of the environment. By striving towards being an environmentally friendly company now, we will be ready for future regulations, which will undoubtedly be much more stringent.
Today’s consumers are more and more interested in knowing how and where something was made, what was used to make it, and what happens to it when it is no longer needed. Printing can be done in an environmentally friendly way without sacrificing production quality. Our goal is to improve energy efficiency, use resources as prudently as possible, and continue to keep our production processes up to date.
In 2018, we launched our own solar power plant with a full capacity of 200 kWh. The power plant can cover 10-20% of the energy we need for production each year. Thanks to the use of solar power, we are able to keep up to 300 tonnes of CO2 from releasing annually.
Taking care of the nature and climate is important for Greif. Sustainable forestry and the use of certified paper and wood products are essential, which is why we decided to pursue the FSC®(FSC-C153366) certificate. We want to operate responsibly and contribute to more sustainable development.
We make sure that all our processing waste is recycled or recovered in an environmentally friendly way, as we want to avoid negative impact on nature and the environment. We have been a client of ETO (the Non-Profit Organisation Eesti Taaskasutusorganisatsioon) since 2009. ETO is a member of the Packaging Recovery Organisation Europe PRO EUROPE and the Extended Producers Responsibility Association EXPRA.
Greif is entitled to use the Green Dot label on its packaging. The Green Dot on packaging means that for such packaging a financial contribution has been paid by the company to a qualified national packaging recovery organisation that has been set up in accordance with the principles defined in the European Packaging and Packaging Waste Directive 94/62 and the respective national law.
Hubergroup, who manufactures the colours we use, is aware of its social responsibility. Thanks to that, the colours we use for printing have various ecolabels: Blue Angel, Cradle to Cradle, Nordic Swan Ecolabel, EU Ecolabel, Austrian Ecolabel.
We have been using chemistry-free printing plates since 2015 and are one of the first printing houses in Estonia to do so. We have shared our knowledge about the technology with many wonderful colleagues from other printing houses. Representatives of various plate manufacturers often turn to us for advice.
The Kodak Sonora process-free plates give us a considerable environmental and cost advantage. By using the Kodak Sonora process-free plates, we can show our clients and the community that we are dedicated to environmental sustainability – we have removed from our manufacturing process all the chemicals, as well as water and energy costs, and the waste associated with processing plates.
Our printing process uses BluePrint Products chemicals, which adhere to the most stringent environmental standards. BluePrint Products places great emphasis on green printing solutions, and always makes sure its products are ecological and safe for the user. BluePrint Products uses the Nordic Swan Ecolabel on its products.
We are constantly making our printing house more environmentally sustainable and adjusting our operations to meet the laws put into place in the community.
